Christmas Spirit.....

I have REALLY struggled to get into the "Christmas Spirit" this year for reasons unknown. It could be that I am working and have had NO time to do anything Christmas thus far. It could be the lack of money to do anythng Christmas this year. Or it could be that I haven't tried very hard. I decided last night to attempt to try and get myself in the spirit of Christmas. I sat down with the kids last night and read them a story titled "The Giving Chest" it was a good little Christmas story about the gift of giving. It helped a little. The kids enjoyed the book so it was a success. Then today after work I met Travis and good ol Target to do our FIRST Christmas shopping this year. With money so tight, as it is for everyone, we really werent' doing a whole lot and it made it a little more meaningful to make sure the few things they were getting were "good". That also helped a little. I am starting to feel the Christmas Spirit. We have our ward party tonight and I am really hoping this will finish off the job of getting me excited for Christmas. I also hope to take goodies to some friends Monday night with the fam for FHE. What are some things you have done to get you and your family in the Christmas Spirit?

I'm feeling the same way Lacey! Good idea about the book. I think that's what I need to do to feel it. This is the first year for me that I haven't felt warm and fuzzy searching out deals for the kids and figuring out what to get for others. I'm going to make an effort to get out of my slump. Hope things get better!

I think everyone is feeling a little out of the Christmas Spirit this year. I know I am, especially with Jon gone. I guess even more so for Jon though since he says it's just like any other day over there. Hopefully we can all get a little more cheerful, haha. And don't worry about missing out on "stuff", we really don't do much. Can't wait to see you guys soon. Love ya

I have been doing Christmas's crafts with the kids. I really enjoy it and they look forward to it. Ummm...have the kids write letters to Santa. I have started crafts for my neighbors, friends, teachers, and the girls at school. That are really inexpensive and fun to do...that ALWAYS helps me like I am doing "something". Nathan and I are also tight and I told him the first of December...."it wasn't going to ruin it for me." We do what we can do and that has to be enough. It's hard when both of my kids still believe in Santa and they thing he can do "ANYTHING". LOL

did you read my blog about how I scaled back this year? I feel so good now knowing I don't have to spend a certain amount on everyone and that it is OK to shop for gifts on craiglist and garage sales. I got a $50 gift for $15 and it is practically new! So I know where you are coming from. But to get in the spirit we talked with our kids about why we give gifts and that since it is Jesus' birthday he should get some to. So we wrapped a box with a slit in the top and put "for: Jesus" and we put acts of service inside all month long. Doing all these different acts of service has got the warm fuzzy feeling going! --Anissa
